Astigmatic or Toric Contact Lenses
Astigmatism means your eye is more shaped like a football than a basketball. As a basketball is perfectly round and doesn't depend on rotation, a football shaped eye is dependent on it's orientation. The larger the astigmatism the more critical the prescription is needed to be in the right axis. When an astigmatism becomes too large, a special toric contact lens is needed to correct the vision precisely.
Today's contact lens technology allows for almost all astigmatic patients to be fit with soft contacts. These new lenses hold their position and create stable crisp vision throughout the day. Dryness can play havoc with toric lens centration, but with new materials and lens designs, rotation has now become minimized... allowing greater comfort and stable vision for all your daily needs.
